Your Wife Was Just Here by Karen Walker

Everyone in the store saw her before I did and scurried. Mice!

Nancy went to the tool department—crickets—then appeared at my shoulder. Felt her eyes. As manager, you insist on good customer service so I looked up. “Can I help you, Mrs. Lawrence?”

She wanted a drill for your birthday. Did I know which one you liked? Yup. She winced. I smirked. Know you better than she does anymore. Remember to be surprised.

I even cashed her out! The credit card was in your name. She knew the PIN. I don’t. What is it? See u tonight.
