Living Amongst My Salty Mistress by Peter Barnfather

I was thrown
to the tumultuous ocean
for my bluff of
free will.

The ebb and flow
of my salty mistress was persistent
only in its monotony;
never once
ceasing to allow me breath
or a brief interlude
for mindless
thought.

My detractors
had shown me leniency –
a small craft
for a cell –
but in the vastness of the sea
this was of
little consequence,
as I bobbed
invisibly
in a constellation
of infinite possibilities.
